GOLD PRICES | What do we know?

As you're probably more than aware, the price of gold is at record highs. When we were established in 1948 by Douglas Jacobs, a troy ounce of gold was $34. Today it's around $4900, with that figure being triple that of just 5 years ago.

Of late we've been asked a lot "what will happen next?" to which we have an honest answer - we don't know!

For us here in the shop, we anticipate the price of jewellery to move upwards as makers + workshops adjust to the new higher levels. Within the industry there are many discussions about using lower grades of gold, or making finer, more delicate jewellery to bring the gold content down. This may seem a good idea in the short term, however having looked after out clients for over 75 years now, we know that compromised design jewellery doesn't last as well as proper, well constructed + thought out design.

But rest assured, we're keeping an eye out to make sure you get the right jewellery at the right price for you + your families.

With the price of gold being so high, many of our clients' insurance valuations are now very out of date. If you're not sure then do check your policy + please do reach out if you'd like any advice or would like to book a formal valuation.
